Oral Submucous Fibrosis

Oral Submucous Fibrosis is a chronic debilitating disease which affects the oral cavity. The initial symptom of this disease is the inflammation of the submucosal tissues and then the infected person might feel burning sensation in the mouth and that too while taking hot and spicy foods. There will be either excessive or decreased salivations and there are few other features of this disease. Patients might feel pain in the ear and there will be nasal intonation of voice. In few cases there will be pigmentation in oral mucosa and there will be dryness in the mouth. The reason for this disease is constant usage of pan masala and gutka at high concentration. Excessive consumption of red chillies can also result in this disease. Prior to treatment the patient must undergo Biopsy screening and the patient must avoid the dried products. Proper oral hygiene must be maintained and Vitamin B complex , A & C are also recommended.
