Normally people are addicted to a lot of snacks. One such a popular snack is pop corn. It is nothing but a corn which expands when it is heated. The corn normally expands from the kernels and gets puffed up. World has undergone a lot of changes in the recent past. This is mainly due to the recent advancements in the modern technology. A lot of new techniques are employed for popping corns. Zea mays averta is the trinomial name of pop corn. It is often considered as one of the healthy foods. Pop corn was first discovered by people from North America before 1000 years. The logic behind the popping of corns is very simple. The kernels present in the corns usually will contain certain amount of oil and moisture. It is because of the strong heating above the boiling point which makes the corn to pop up. It is possible to heat small amount of corns using a kettle. Normally makers of popcorn will consider two factors before selling them. The popped percentage of kernels and the rate of expansion of each popped kernel are the two factors. Out of this, rate of expansion is a critical factor for the sellers as the bigger pieces may yield them a lot of bucks. The pop corn which does not pop up at certain temperature is often called as old maids. Normally the pop corn varieties are classified based upon the colour of the kernels, shape of the kernels and shape of the popped corn. Pop corn is most commonly preferred snack in cinema theatres. Large amount of pop corns are produced with the help of a popcorn machine. Out of the available varieties, air-popped corn is sugar free, low calorific and contains high fiber and it is one of the attractive snacks available all over the world.
